Elsewhere on this site you estimate Natural Sources Raw thyroid = 32 mcg T4, 8 mcg T3; this calculator estimates Natural Sources Raw Thyroid to contain about 86 mcg of Levothyroxine (T4). Which is more accurate? Thank you!

The first one is correct. Natural Sources Raw Thyroid contains 8 mcg of T3 and 32 mcg of T4. This is equivalent to 86 mcg of T4. (8 mcg x 4 + 32 mcg) / 0.74 = 86 mcg.

When I was in my thirties they misdiagnosed a multi nodular goiter and removed 2/3 of my thyroid. I had been hypothyroid since age 14. Since the time of the removal I always had thyroid pain but doctors always insisted tests were normal. A neighbor stole all my Synthroid pills. I decided to go on kelp instead, but didn't realize it wasn't providing anything because of the small quantity. Started researching and found out that I'm supposed to take a 600 mg caps, but who knows when it will get here. The only place I could find was Forrest Health that would sell the amount that I need. I have some bovine capsules that I ordered awhile back that I can take in the meantime. Thanks for your conversion charts.

Hi! I have had my thyroid (completely?) removed, in two surgeries. The second was about 10 years back. I was initially given 100mcg levothyroxine, as replacement, but that was too much, and I was switched to (this is different) 75mcg 5 days a week, and 37.5mcg, 2 days per week (Sat and Weds.) Now I want to end my physician relationship and have purchased (300's) ThyroGold. My concern, according to converter, is that I should only require 83mg TGold, 5 days, and 42mg TGold, 2 days. Is there a safe way to remove a portion of the thyroid from capsule? It seems one capsule would be more than what I'd need for 3 days. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks for your convertor! Wish I had looked into it before I made my purchase. Also, thanks for your help.

The recommended way to split your dose is to open the capsule on a sheet of paper and divide the powder inside by either eyeballing it or, if you are sensitive, weighing it. Keep the other part of the powder for another day.

Given that T4 builds up in your bloodstream over multiple weeks, wouldn't it be both safe and effective to take just a few pills with the higher dosage a couple times a week? The main reason they recommend taking the same dosage every day is so that you get into a habit and don't forget to take dosages. If you feel comfortable taking only a few pills a week, and ensuring your total weekly intake is about the same, there isn't any scientific reason not to.

Does your converter allow for the other contents in the Thyro-gold? Thyro-gold contains 100mg of L-Aspartic Acid along with 25mg of Coleus forskohili which makes for a total of 425 mg of contents in the capsule. When I use your converter for 120mg of Armour it converts to 222mg of Thyro-gold. Is that 222mg of the 425mg of the total content or 222mg of the 300mg of Bovine thyroid in the contents? I hope this makes sense, it equates to needing 1/2 of a 300mg capsule or 3/4.

Thank you for the converter- it's so helpful! I am trying to figure out the conversion from 32.5 mg Nature-Throid to Allergy Research Group Thyroid: https://www.allergyresearchgroup.com/thyroid-100-vegicaps How does one go about making the conversion? Many thanks!

Hi. I'm a bit confused. On your other page you say, "A 150 mg capsule of Thyro-Gold contains 50 mcg of T4 and 12.5 mcg of T3", but on this conversion page, 150 mg of Thyro-Gold is equivalent to 135 mcg of T4 (Synthoid). That's a big difference. Do you know which one is the accurate amount? Thanks.

They're actuallly both correct. NDTs like Thyro-Gold have 'hidden power' that makes them more potent than liothyronine and levothyroxine. See thyroidpaul.com/ndt-hidden-power for more info.

If you are confused by his reference to "hidden power" it basically means that NDT contains both T4 and T3 in the same pill (unlike levothyroxine which is only T4) and when you take them at the same time they "make" more of each other in your bloodstream. You would get a similar effect if you took synthetic T4 with synthetic T3.

Thank you for your web site, it has been a great help!

Thyro Gold - I have been taking over a month - 1 300 mcg in the morning and an additional 150mcg every other day to try to approximate the 3 Thyroid S a day I had been taking. The 300 mcg capsule gives me a headache, then shaky and low blood sugar before noon. Do you know of an alternative?
