How I got diagnosed for hypothyroidism
"I feel ill every day," I said. "I think there's something wrong with me."
"You're just getting older," said Girlfriend. "That's all. You're just getting older."
I was twenty-seven.
"I googled my symptoms and I think I might have something called hypothyroidism."
"You can't google your symptoms, Paul. You can't do that!"
"Why not?"
"The information on the internet is wrong. If you google your symptoms it'll give you the wrong answer! It'll say you have cancer!"
"It didn't say I have cancer, it said I have hypothyroidism."
"The only thing wrong with you is you're a hypochondriac!"
"Well I think I might see a doctor anyway, just in case."
"Yeah go to see a doctor. He'll tell you what's wrong with you. He'll tell you you're a hypochondriac!"
I went to the doctor. The doctor looked at me and said. "Your problem is that you just don't eat enough."
"Well I'd still like to do these blood tests just in case."
So he did the blood tests. Then he took me into his office and said, "Well according to these results, you have something called hypothyroidism."
I showed the results to Girlfriend.
"That doesn't mean anything. You must have cheated the blood test somehow."
I started taking medication for hypothyroidism. I started feeling better.
She still doesn't believe me to this day.
